Baby Hero Begins - Part 2

Our vision to support our cause was to create a product – competitive in price and quality – that gives consumers the option to incorporate giving into their everyday lives.

The product would relate to our cause and it would be a basic, essential item that every mother could use daily and children, too, could use to participate in the concept of giving. The answer: The Baby Hero Infant Onesie. The Baby Hero Onesie gives consumers the option to purchase a practical, basic baby item that is on every “baby checklist”, yet at the same time it improves maternal and infant health around the world with every purchase. We believe that people want to help each other and we know that lives get busy. The Baby Hero Onesies, and now our Toddler Tees, make giving nearly as effortless as breathing.

We are mothers too and wanted to make the design of our Baby Hero Onesie and Tee the best for our babies. At the same time, we know how many washes our children’s clothes go through, so we wanted our product to be practical too and easy to clean.   We prioritize comfort, making sure the onesie and tee are easy to put on and to wear; and we make sure every element is gentle on their skin. We do not use, for example, itchy, sewn on garment tags. Instead we have the garment tag information printed directly on the onesie and tee using a fairly labor intensive, screen-printing process that makes the ink soft to the touch.

We chose to work with our favorite baby friendly fabric - organic cotton - because it is free from harmful chemicals. Organic cotton is now recommended by pediatricians as the best fabric for a newborn’s skin. It minimizes irritation, reducing chances of skin rashes or other reactions, such as eczema, as it does not carry the chemicals that are seen in many of the non-organic baby clothes on the market.

We examined many different organic fabric types seeking and finding the softest, most comfy options in type, weight and fabric wash for our onesies and tees. We made sure every thread and die used in our products were free from harmful chemicals too.

In our big dream, we hope that Baby Hero becomes a household name and that giving becomes easy. We hope to grow so that our children too understand that what they are wearing, what they are living, naturally incorporates helping others. We want our children to learn that giving and getting can be a simultaneous occurrence and that this value of helping our fellow families can be an ordinary part of their lives from the very beginning.

We hope, one day, that Anaia and Cooper pick up a shirt from their drawer or a toy from the shelf and ask, “Mama, what does this give to our world?  What family did we help?”

Thank you for supporting Baby Hero.

Allie, I was your neighbor (we live at 2 Lost Timbers) and have followed your “growing up” through the years and even got to see Cooper when you visited your mom this last year. What a cutie! I think what you’re doing is wonderful. Clearly you have inherited your mom’s communication skills and also a wonderful social conscience from both of your parents. Kudos to you. I wondered if you would have an “alternative gift” place on your website for those who would just like to donate the birth kit portion and don’t need the clothing? I would be happy to donate for that and give a card to my daughter-in-law about this support that I would give to honor her. You might also be eligible for listing on alternative gift markets where others might also do this (check out Alternative Gift Market International on their website so you can get an idea how it works). There are lots of churches/synagogues who do alternative gift markets during the holiday season. Perhaps you can offer 2 options—one to buy your wonderful clothing and/or one for just the pure donation. Just a thought. My very best wishes. Sincerely, Barbara Alexander
